SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - They say a picture is worth a thousand words and the hope is that the pictures which are featured in the Heart Gallery will speak to the hearts of future forever families and help find homes for waiting foster children.
The Heart Gallery is currently traveling throughout San Diego County with the purpose to raise awareness about the need for adoptive families and showcase children who are waiting to find forever homes.
Photographers Marjory Squire and Ron Manahan, who donate their time to the project, work to capture each child's spirit.
“Their inner heart, their soul, their whole personality and that's the key to photography is to tell a story,” said Squire. “You know, without any type of sound. They can see that and it all comes from the heart.”
Many foster kids have few photos of their childhood as they travel from foster home to foster home, which makes these Heart gallery photos so special and a true gift for the child's future forever family.
“It means a lot to me because now I know I'm successful in reaching our goals as photographers to share those images and with the success families,” said Squire. “They can see their true personality.”
The Heart Gallery is currently on display at the Vista Library on Eucalyptus Avenue through the end of December.
